Minutes from the July 18, 2023, GENERAL Membership meeting

Board Members Present:

Amy DeVillez, Robin Dickson, Rosemarie Bower, and J.A. Swartz

Board Member Absent: Denise Samples

​

We had 70+ members present for our meeting. Amy thanked Alice Bray for the brownies. The meeting was called to order by Amy at 4:00 p.m. All joined in the pledge of Allegiance and Rosemarie gave the prayer.

​

ELECT New Board Members: Henry Jackson and Denise Samples have stepped down from the board. We appreciate the time that they served with us. Amy nominated Kevin Pearson as Vice President and Kandice Andrade as Treasurer. Seconded from the members and all were in favor of having Kevin and Kandice be on our board.

​

PRESENTATION OF CHECKS: The board presented Jack Prentice from Good News at Noon Shelter with a check for $2,000 and Ron Crow from the VFW Post 8452 with a $500 check for their efforts in serving our Veterans at the food pantry.

​

Donation of Bikes: Thank you to John and Arlene Stevens for doating two bikes for our Veterans in need.

​

VETERANS in need: Jeff Crane and his Court Appointed Mentor, Alice Bray, shared with our members the program and how we have helped with his new apartment. He was very thankful to us. We also have helped Eric Trameri’s three young children. We helped the mother with money for food and diapers.

​

GUEST SPEAKER today: Peter, Amy and Renee from Right at Home shared about the VA benefits and what they offer to Veterans and their families. RIGHT AT HOME 971 Lanier Avenue, Gainesville, GA --30501 phone: 770-535-3007 Renee Bennett’s direct number: 770-561-5921. They stayed after our meeting and talked with members individually. Rosemarie will be sending an email out to our members about how to reach RIGHT AT HOME.

APPRECIATION PICNIC – August 1st. Our goal for this event is to share with our community what we do and recruit new members. Amy was able to get a $600 donation from the Lanier Law Group. Reminders will be sent out to our members and information in the daily update.

​

NEXT GUEST SPEAKER – AUGUST 15: Tom Flaim will be speaking regarding WWII and the Italian Resistance Fighters. This will be held in the clubhouse ballroom at 4 p.m.

​

FINANCIAL REPORT: Amy was able to give a breakdown of expenses and donations. At the time of this meeting, we had $63,642.00.

​

NEXT GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING: October 17th

​

COAT DRIVE: October 23 – 26.

​
